The Misunderstood Four Letter Word!

Sometime back someone asked me the famous question I have heard time and time again

'How do I get rid of this belly? I don't have enough time to exercise!'

Given that he was already quite active, I said that I could help him without the exercise regime.

He said quite emphatically, 'No Bro, don't ask me to diet!'

DIET - the dreaded 4 letter word.

I thought about it and then realised most people are never asked to diet. They just have their own dieting plans.  Those DIET plans are either messing them up or building them up. I mean no one ever came up and said 'I want a diet plan that will make me bulge and burst at every corner of my being!' They just chose their own diet. So let me set something straight. I am not going to ask you to go on a diet because you already are on one (which by the way in all probability is not helping you). I am going to suggest reordering your diet habits or look closely at what is in your diet. Most people are so scared that diet means

  • I will not be able to eat at all
  • I will not be able to enjoy my favorite foods
  • It will turn me into a herbivore
DIET as defined by Oxford is

  • the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats
  • a special course of food to which a person restricts themselves, either to lose weight or for medical reasons

  • [as modifier] (of food or drink) with reduced fat or sugar content

So here is my point. Everyone has already established their own dietary pattern regardless of where they got it from. To get to a certain goal it just has to be reordered or habits have to be changed.

I am very adamant that a diet is to be enjoyed and one that you can maintain into your lifestyle. I am also averse to diets that will kill you. After all you are not going to live healthy or long enough to enjoy life or eat things you enjoy eating.

Hopefully this post will give you a new paradigm shift on diets. Improve your life. Improve your health. Get your diet reordered and change your life to reach your goals.

    Change your mind.

    Stay Committed

Look Fit or Be fit?

Yesterday I met a business associate of mine at a Distribution Center after quite a while. We were at two seperate counters and our greetings did not last too long. However she did say this, 'You are looking fit!' I smiled happy at the fact that here was another person who saw the result of my hard work and noticed it. Later I was thinking about it and I thought about what she said. I might have LOOKED fit, but was I? As a matter of fact a lot of people look similar to me right now in terms of body structure and LOOKING fit. Could I handle a real life situation if the time came? Could I run up a flight of stairs without getting breathless? Could I lift a weight of the ground without having strains? Its one thing to look fit but a totally different other to be fit. Looking good is one thing. You might have a great definition and well built muscle but what can you do with it?

Am I Like this?.........

OR......am I this?

I train for real life scenarios. The looking good is a by product. I want to be able to run with my kids and not tire out. I want to be mentally alert and not feel sluggish after a meal. I want to be able to lift weight and have endurance when my wife decides to rearrange the house (which most husbands know last more than the 10 minutes they tell you it takes)! I want to set the example to my clients and show them that they don't have to be athletes to be able to have a healthy, strong and fit lifestyle. I started to introspect my life and realised I am coming short. Yes I have achieved quite a breakthrough by my own personal standards. There is however a lot more to go. A lot of room for improvement. I will not only look fit but be fit.
